Pelikan’s new
Limited Edition, “The Lighthouse of Alexandria”, is a further highlight
in the “Seven Wonders of the World” series of fine writing instruments.
This time, tribute is paid to the highest of the seven wonders - the
Pharos of Alexandria. This majestic ancient lighthouse stood on the
island of Pharos close to the coast of Egypt for more than a thousand
years; built in 300 B.C., it was the first beacon fire in history.
The
exclusive fountain pen from Pelikan recalls this technical and artistic
marvel with an equivalent degree of precision and craftsmanship. Even
the presentation is unique: the pen is impressively displayed under a
glass dome designed to be reminiscent of the original. The dark blue
lacquered barrel enclosed between gold-plated edges and the gold-plated
clip emphasise the preciousness of the pen. The front section is
adorned with an engraved image of the ancient building.
Further
features of “The Lighthouse of Alexandria“ are shapes representing four
stylised lighthouse windows on the dark blue cap. Collectors who value
the highest degree of functionality and consistency in writing will be
particularly thrilled by the 18-carat gold nib, individually embossed
with a blazing beacon fire. Each fountain pen of the Limited Edition
“The Lighthouse of Alexandria” is rendered unique by the engraved
serial number on the filler knob.
The
series is limited to 440 pens, an allusion to the height of this
unparalleled structure: the Pharos of Alexandria was 440 ft. high and
took over 20 years to build. It was considered an architectural
masterpiece and right down to today remains the tallest beacon ever
built in the world.
